Windows “Workstation” 2008
|
I was recently sent a link by a colleague about using Windows Server 2008 and a workstation operating system. Interestingly enough, the suggestion originated from within Microsoft. I’ve seen a couple articles about it (here and here), so I decided to try it myself. Boy, they are right, it is a heck of a lot faster, even with the Aero theme enabled. There are a couple of ideas floating around about why it is so much faster. One is the lack of DRM in Server 2008. From what I’ve seen, that is very probable, because it seems that many software companies stop at nothing to foist DRM upon its users. I understand that effort and resources are put where the money comes from, but it’s getting rediculous already. I’m with Linus Torvalds on the whole DRM issue, “If somebody wants to do DRM it is their problem. I don’t want anything to do with it.” Anywho, I’m going to stick with what works. Microsoft screwed the pooch on Vista, so Server 2008 it is. If you try, be sure to follow the link to the Microsoft blog above; the engineer has some things listed that are essential for normal desktop operation. |

The biggest problem with vista all along has been the embedded DRM. it pisses me off. It’s the reason why winfs was chucked. Bastards chose the movie industry OVER it’s customers. BAD move! F*ck MS!!
BTW, apple is supposed to get WGA soon :-\
